Russell Brand is denying allegations of sexually assaulting a woman on the set of the film Arthur in 2010. The woman, who filed a civil lawsuit in November, claimed that Brand exposed himself and assaulted her. However, Brand's lawyers argue that the lawsuit is based on the false claim that he was visibly intoxicated at the time. They assert that although Brand was playing a drunk character, he was sober in reality. According to legal papers filed by Brand's lawyers, the woman seems to be unable to distinguish between acting and reality. She alleged that Brand appeared intoxicated, smelled of alcohol, and carried a bottle of vodka on set. She also claimed that Brand assaulted her in a bathroom while a member of the production crew guarded the door. In response, Brand denies these allegations, stating that he does not recognize the woman's name or photo and does not remember any interactions with her. His legal team highlights that Brand's character in the film Arthur is a drunk, but Brand himself did not consume any alcohol or drugs during production. The lawyers also argue that the woman's faulty memory of events, which she reported more than 13 years after they allegedly occurred, undermines her claims. At the time of filming, Brand had been sober from drugs and alcohol for nearly eight years. The film studio Warner Bros Pictures and other companies involved in the production are also named as defendants in the lawsuit. It should be noted that Brand is facing other accusations of rape, sexual assaults, and emotional abuse between 2006 and 2013. In December, he was questioned by London's Metropolitan Police regarding nine alleged offenses, and the investigation is ongoing. Brand has previously stated that all his relationships have been consensual.
