According to medical officials in Los Angeles, actor Matthew Perry's death was an accidental result of the effects of ketamine. Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing in the hit sitcom Friends, was found unresponsive in his Los Angeles home's pool in October. The initial post-mortem examination was inconclusive, but drowning was listed as a contributing factor in his death. Perry had struggled with addiction to painkillers and alcohol, which he sought treatment for on multiple occasions. He had openly spoken about his difficulties, revealing in 2016 that he couldn't recall three years of filming Friends due to substance abuse. The LA County medical examiner stated that Perry's death was also influenced by coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine, a medication used to treat opioid addiction. Paramedics pronounced him dead when they arrived at his home on October 28, and although the post-mortem examination had been initially completed, further information was needed, leading to the deferral of the case.
