According to Greek media, a former employee of a shipping company in Glyfada, near Athens, has shot and killed three people before turning the gun on himself. Police found the suspect dead next to a hunting rifle believed to have been used in the shooting. The owner of the company was among the victims. Initially, the incident led to a hostage situation, but the armed man eventually barricaded himself on the second floor of the building. A witness described hearing gunshots and fleeing to safety through the back door of the garage. Authorities cordoned off the area and attempted negotiations with the gunman, but he ultimately took his own life. The shooter has been identified as a 70-year-old Egyptian national. Shootings are uncommon in Greece, which has strict gun possession laws. The seaside resort of Glyfada is home to many Greek and foreign shipping companies, including European Product Carriers, which owns a fleet of around 35 vessels, including oil tankers.
