Tributes have been paid to Adam Johnson, an ice hockey player who tragically died after his neck was cut by a skate during a match. The 29-year-old forward for the Nottingham Panthers suffered a fatal injury during a game against the Sheffield Steelers on Saturday. The club described the incident as a "freak accident." In remembrance of Johnson, his teammates and fans have placed flowers outside Nottingham's Motorpoint Arena, where the Panthers play their home games. Panthers supporters expressed their grief and disbelief following the match at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield. Lucy Morgan, a fan, described Johnson as not only a talented player but also a kind and caring person who looked out for his teammates and fans. Chloe Wells, who had met Johnson the day before the incident, spoke highly of his friendly personality. Steelers fans also joined the Panthers supporters in Nottingham to pay their respects. The tragedy was acknowledged at the Hillsborough football ground during a minute's silence before the Sheffield Wednesday vs. Rotherham United match. Johnson had previously played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Pittsburgh Penguins and had also played in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) before joining the Nottingham Panthers. The club released a statement expressing their profound sorrow and remembering Johnson as an exceptional player, teammate, and person. They requested privacy for Johnson's family, friends, and everyone at the club during this difficult time.
