A Palestinian-American man was shot in Vermont and sought help in a nearby house after jumping a fence. Kinnan Abdalhamid, along with his friends Hisham Awartani and Tahseen Aliahmad, was attacked while walking down a street in Burlington. The suspect, Jason J Eaton, has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder. The police have not determined a motive for the attack but are investigating the possibility of a hate crime. This incident comes amidst a rise in Islamophobic and antisemitic incidents in the US since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict. The victims were speaking a mix of English and Arabic and wearing traditional Palestinian scarves when they were attacked. Abdalhamid recounted that a man they didn't know stared at them and approached with a handgun, shooting them without uttering a word before fleeing. Abdalhamid managed to escape after being shot and sought help from a nearby house. His friends were treated at the scene, and all three are now recovering in intensive care. The suspect was apprehended by federal agents the next day and was found in possession of a weapon. He appeared in court via video link and pleaded not guilty. While investigators are still gathering evidence, officials believe this was a hateful act. The victims' relatives expressed their shock and resilience in the face of this tragedy.
