Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja has been advised against displaying a message in support of Palestinians during a Test match against Pakistan. Khawaja had planned to wear shoes with the words "all lives are equal" and "freedom is a human right". However, Cricket Australia has stated that Khawaja must follow international rules that prohibit displaying personal messages. Captain Pat Cummins expressed support for Khawaja but will not wear the shoes himself. Khawaja had previously shown support for people in Gaza on social media. Cricket Australia said they support players' right to express personal opinions, but expect them to uphold ICC rules. Cummins stated that the team supports Khawaja's message and does not find it divisive. Khawaja has decided against wearing the shoes on-field after being informed about the ICC rules.
