A former pilot for Delta Airlines has been charged for allegedly threatening to shoot his captain during a flight last year. Jonathan J Dunn was indicted by a grand jury in Utah for interfering with the crew of a commercial flight. The incident occurred when the captain wanted to divert the flight due to a sick passenger. Dunn is set to be arraigned in November. According to court documents, Dunn physically assaulted and intimidated a crew member during the August 2022 flight, using a dangerous weapon. The Department of Transportation's inspector general's office, along with the FBI and FAA, are investigating the incident. Delta Airlines confirmed that Dunn was employed as a first officer at the time of the incident but has since been terminated. He had been authorized to carry a firearm by the TSA, but has since been removed from the Federal Flight Deck Officer Program. Interfering with a flight crew is a felony offense that carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in jail.
