Turkey has issued an international arrest warrant for the son of Somalia's president, Mohammed Hassan Cheikh Mohamud, for allegedly running over a motorcycle courier who later died. The incident occurred in Istanbul when Mohamud collided with the courier in broad daylight while driving a car belonging to the Somali consulate. Turkish officials believe that Mohamud has already fled the country as they imposed a travel ban on him. Istanbul's mayor, Ekrem İmamoğlu, shared CCTV footage of the incident on social media, showing a car hitting the back of a motorcycle at a junction on a busy road. The motorcyclist, Yunus Emre Göçer, was taken to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries six days later. Initially, the police report had blamed Göçer for the accident, leading to Mohamud's release, but a review of the security footage indicated otherwise. Mohamud, who has not made any public statements, now faces an international arrest warrant issued by the Turkish prosecutor. Reports suggest that he has not been at his home for nearly a week. Turkey and Somalia have enjoyed a growing diplomatic relationship over the past decade, with Turkey providing various types of support to Somalia, including infrastructure investments, military training, and humanitarian aid.
