Tiger Woods and Nike have decided to end their partnership after over 27 years together. Woods, a 15-time major golf champion, has been using Nike products and equipment since he turned professional in 1996. Woods expressed his gratitude for the many incredible moments and memories he has had with Nike over the years. Nike also praised Woods as one of the greatest athletes ever and acknowledged his role in redefining the sport of golf. Their partnership began in 1996 with a $40 million five-year contract, becoming one of the most lucrative deals in sports history. Woods went on to sign multiple contracts with Nike, including a reported $200 million 10-year deal in 2013. January is typically when new contracts are agreed upon between golfers and sponsors. Woods, who returned to competition in 2021 after recovering from a leg injury, stated that he was fortunate to have partnered with Nike nearly 30 years ago. Unlike some other major brands that cut ties with Woods during his scandalous period, Nike stood by him and provided their full support. Woods expressed his gratitude to Phil Knight, Nike's co-founder, and former CEO for his passion and vision. He also hinted at another chapter in his career, mentioning his upcoming hosting of the Genesis Invitational in Los Angeles. Due to his leg injury, Woods plans to have a limited schedule in 2024, but he remains confident in his ability to win on the PGA Tour.
