Rudolph Isley, one of the Isley Brothers' lead vocalists and songwriters, has passed away at the age of 84. His brother Ernie confirmed that Rudolph died peacefully in his sleep. Ronald Isley expressed his love for his brother and stated that the family will miss him but believes he is in a better place. While Rudolph primarily sang harmonies, he also took lead vocals on certain tracks such as "I've Got to Get Myself Together" and "It's a Disco Night (Rock Don't Stop)". Rudolph also played a significant role in writing popular songs like "Harvest For The World", "Fight The Power", and "Shout". The Isley Brothers, originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, were an influential band that transitioned from gospel to Motown soul, R&B, and politically-driven funk. The group initially consisted of Ronald, Rudolph, O'Kelly, and Vernon Isley, but after Vernon's tragic death at the age of 13, they continued as a trio. Their signature song, "Shout", became their first million-selling record, despite facing criticism from church groups. The Isley Brothers further found success with hits such as "Twist and Shout" and "This Old Heart of Mine (Is Weak for You)". They experienced a resurgence in the late 1960s and 1970s, combining soul melodies with psychedelic and funk elements. Rudolph's flamboyant outfits, cane, and role as the band's overseer made him stand out. In 1986, after the passing of O'Kelly, Rudolph left the band to pursue his aspiration of becoming a Christian minister, passing the torch to Ronald. However, he continued to sing and released a religious album called "Shouting for Jesus" in 1996. Rudolph, along with his brothers, was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in 1992. In March, Rudolph filed a lawsuit against Ronald, accusing him of trying to trademark the Isley Brothers' name without including him in the partnership. Rudolph's death now leaves Ronald and Ernie as the only surviving members of the band.
