The body of a Zimbabwe opposition activist who was abducted has been identified by his wife. Tapfumaneyi Masaya, a member of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), was forcibly taken by armed men and his wife later confirmed that a body discovered on the outskirts of the capital, Harare, belonged to her husband. Another person who was kidnapped alongside Masaya, identified as Jeffrey Kalosi, was released under unclear circumstances. Masaya's abduction is the latest in a series of kidnappings involving opposition party members and human rights activists. These abductions have been on the rise since the disputed general elections in August, which resulted in President Emmerson Mnangagwa being re-elected. The opposition party, led by Nelson Chamisa, has refused to accept the election result due to alleged irregularities. Previous incidents of abductions and torture of opposition members and activists have also been reported. The ruling party, Zanu-PF, and the authorities deny responsibility for these abductions, dismissing them as orchestrated attempts to tarnish the government's reputation. Recently, 13 more MPs from the CCC were recalled by the speaker of parliament, despite a High Court ruling stating that all instructions from a disputed CCC leader should be frozen until a case is heard to determine his authority.
