Storm Babet has caused significant damage and devastation in parts of Scotland, resulting in two fatalities so far. The Met Office has issued a new red weather warning for some eastern areas, alerting people to the danger to life. One death occurred when a falling tree hit a van near Forfar, while the body of a woman who was swept into a river was also found. There is an ongoing search for a driver trapped by floodwaters in Aberdeenshire. Severe flooding has affected parts of north east Scotland, particularly in and around Brechin. The new warning is in effect throughout Saturday, with forecasters predicting further heavy rain. Rescue operations have been conducted throughout the night, with teams going door to door to ensure people's safety. Despite warnings to evacuate, some residents stayed in their homes, leading to over 100 calls for help. Flood defences were overwhelmed, and many properties have been flooded. Thousands of homes were left without power, and major road closures were put in place. The Scottish Environment Protection Agency has issued severe flood warnings for several areas. The storm has also affected other parts of the UK, with amber and yellow weather warnings in place for England and Northern Ireland respectively.
