A 23-year-old woman has been arrested in California for allegedly attempting to steal Stanley cups worth $2,500 from a shop. According to police, the staff confronted her, but she refused to pay for the items and instead stuffed them into her car. The particular cup in question, called the Adventure Quencher Travel Tumbler, has gained massive popularity on TikTok, with the #Stanleycup hashtag accumulating over seven billion views worldwide. This trend has unfortunately led to a rise in criminal attempts related to the cup, such as a recent video showing a man jumping across a Starbucks counter to steal a hot pink limited edition of the flask. The incident took place in Roseville, a suburb of Sacramento, the capital of California. Store employees noticed the woman pushing a shopping cart filled with the water bottles towards her car trunk. Despite their attempts to stop her, she refused and managed to load her car with the stolen merchandise. However, traffic police intervened as she tried to enter a nearby highway, leading to her arrest. Upon searching her vehicle, authorities found a total of 65 stolen Stanley cups. The local police department issued a warning to potential offenders, stating, "While Stanley Quenchers are highly sought after, we strongly discourage resorting to criminal activities to quench your thirst." Stanley cups, which were first invented in 1913 by William Stanley Junior and marketed as unbreakable, gained popularity among eco-conscious and health-conscious individuals, particularly teenagers on TikTok, in the past two years. However, the recent limited editions of these cups have caused chaos in some US stores, with TikTok videos showing people queuing overnight and engaging in a frenzy to purchase these cups, which retail at $54.50 at Target supermarkets.
