During a nationwide protest by French farmers, a female farmer in her thirties was tragically killed, while her husband and teenage daughter were severely injured when a car crashed into a roadblock. The incident occurred in the south-west, an important agricultural region in France, where farmers have been blocking key roads for several days. The accident, which happened south of Toulouse, appears to be unintentional, according to the local prosecutor. The Agriculture Minister expressed his condolences, describing it as a tragedy for everyone. The protest by farmers is in response to new environmental regulations and increasing energy costs. As the farmers' roadblocks expanded following a meeting with the Prime Minister, the accident took place. The car struck bales of straw and hit three people on the main N20 national route at Pamiers. The woman killed in the incident was a cattle breeder, her husband sustained serious injuries, and their teenage daughter's condition is worrying. The three occupants of the car have been detained and an investigation into aggravated manslaughter has been opened. The young farmer who died belonged to the FNSEA farmers' union, whose president expressed the difficulty of coping with such a tragedy during these challenging times for French agriculture. The protests have now spread across France, with the head of the Young Farmers union stating their determination, even willing to blockade Paris if necessary. Tractors and lorries have blocked the A7 motorway in south-east France, carrying slogans that highlight the farmers' struggle. The ongoing protests, known as "gilets verts" or green jackets, are reminiscent of the previous gilets jaunes civil protests over fuel prices. The south-west protests have also disrupted major motorways, with farmers setting up sleeping quarters in the middle of the highways. In response to the sensitivity of the situation, the French interior minister has stated that he will not order the police to disperse the blockades.
