Seychelles has declared a state of emergency following a major explosion and flooding at an industrial area on the main island of Mahé. President Wavel Ramkalawan has issued an order for all citizens, except essential workers, to remain at home. There have been reports of injuries due to the blast. The incident occurred at a construction and quarrying company, where explosives were being stored, causing extensive damage in the Providence industrial zone. Surprisingly, the explosion even affected the international airport, despite its distance of 4km (2.5 miles) from the site. In response to the situation, schools have been closed and movement is restricted to and from the holiday islands.
