Hospital announces the birth of twins from a 70-year-old Ugandan woman.

A 70-year-old woman in Uganda has become a mother to twins after undergoing IVF treatment. Safina Namukwaya gave birth to a boy and a girl through caesarean section at a fertility center in Kampala. This makes her one of the oldest women to ever give birth, and she referred to it as a "miracle". The hospital, Women's Hospital International and Fertility Centre, congratulated her and described it as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. It should be noted that in 2019, a 73-year-old Indian woman also gave birth to twins through IVF treatment. Namukwaya mentioned that her partner left her upon learning about the twins and expressed difficulties throughout her pregnancy. This is her second childbirth in three years, as she previously had a baby girl in 2020. Namukwaya has stated that she had desired children after facing ridicule for being childless. It remains unclear whether she used a donor egg or one of her own eggs that had been frozen and stored. While women typically go through menopause between the ages of 45 and 55, medical advancements have made it possible for them to conceive through techniques such as IVF. IVF involves removing an egg from the ovaries, fertilizing it with sperm in a laboratory, and then implanting the resulting embryo into the woman's uterus for development.
