A former election worker from Georgia has given testimony stating that she was subjected to intimidation and fear due to the actions of pro-Donald Trump mobs, following a video tweet by Rudy Giuliani in 2020. Ruby Freeman, aged 64, along with her daughter Wandrea Moss, is now suing Mr. Giuliani for spreading false claims that implicated them in election fraud. Ms. Freeman revealed in court that she had been forced to leave her home out of concern for her safety. Mr. Giuliani has already been found liable, with only the penalties remaining to be determined. Seeking damages between $15m and $43m, the plaintiffs allege that Mr. Giuliani, who served as Donald Trump's personal lawyer, has admitted in court to making false statements about them. While Mr. Giuliani was expected to testify in court on Thursday, his lawyers announced during a morning press conference that this would no longer be the case, though the reasons for this change were not made clear. In her courtroom testimony on Wednesday, Ms. Freeman recounted how she had to flee after a group of Trump supporters gathered outside her home and the FBI warned her of the danger she faced. Feeling terrified, she stated, "I took it as though they were going to hang me with their ropes on my street. I was scared. I didn't know if they were coming to kill me." Ms. Freeman further revealed how she now lives a secluded life out of fear she will be recognized in public, as friends and acquaintances have distanced themselves from her. Lawyers for Ms. Freeman and her daughter rested their case on Wednesday, leaving uncertainty surrounding whether Mr. Giuliani will testify. Mr. Giuliani played a significant role in Donald Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election results, repeatedly promoting baseless claims of fraud. One witness in the trial, Northwestern University professor Ashlee Humphreys, testified that Mr. Giuliani's defamatory statements reached an audience of up to 56 million individuals. The judge presiding over Ms. Freeman's case has prohibited Mr. Giuliani from presenting debunked election fraud allegations in court. Outside the courtroom, however, he has continued to insist that the baseless allegations he made about Ms. Moss and Ms. Freeman were truthful. Mr. Giuliani is also facing charges in Georgia related to an alleged conspiracy to overturn the election results, and he has pleaded not guilty.
