According to a prosecutor, the mother of a man suspected of fatally stabbing a German tourist near the Eiffel Tower in Paris had expressed concerns about her son's behavior weeks before the attack. The incident occurred on Saturday and resulted in injuries to two others, including a British man. The suspect, a 26-year-old French man, was later arrested, and anti-terrorism prosecutors have launched an investigation. France's interior minister acknowledged a "failure" in the alleged attacker's psychiatric treatment, stating that he suffered from acute mental illness and had been deemed fit for release by doctors on multiple occasions. The prosecutor revealed that the suspect had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group and had previously been imprisoned for planning to travel to Syria to join the organization. The suspect had been under surveillance for suspected extremism, and several individuals, including his family members, have been detained for questioning. While concerns were raised about the suspect's behavior in October, there was not enough evidence to initiate a new prosecution. The victim, a German tourist working as a nurse, was with his wife when the attack took place. A taxi driver intervened and saved the wife's life, but the victim was fatally stabbed. The suspect subsequently fled and attacked two more people before being Tasered and apprehended by the police. He has been arrested on suspicion of premeditated murder and attempted murder with terrorist motives. The two injured individuals are reported to be in good health. Video footage captured the moment of the suspect's arrest, during which he allegedly shouted "Allahu Akbar" and expressed his upset about the deaths of Muslims in Afghanistan and Palestine, suggesting French complicity in the latter.
