On Tuesday, Pakistan reported that two children were killed and three others were injured in airstrikes carried out by Iran. The Iranian military targeted two bases associated with the militant group Jaish al-Adl, according to a news agency linked to the country's military. This marks the third time in a matter of days that Iran has launched attacks on another country, as it previously targeted Iraq and Syria. Pakistan's foreign ministry condemned the "illegal" strikes and warned of possible serious consequences. They emphasized that terrorism is a shared threat and unilateral actions are not in line with good neighborly relations. The missile attack on Pakistan from Iran is an unusual occurrence. The strike hit a village in Balochistan, a southwestern province that shares a border with Iran. Security along the border between Pakistan and Iran has long been a concern for both governments. They have been engaged in fighting armed separatist groups, including Jaish al-Adl, in the sparsely populated region for decades. Iran has accused the group of carrying out attacks near the border last month, resulting in the death of several Iranian police officers. Iran's interior minister, Ahmad Vahidi, declared that the militants responsible had entered the country from Pakistan. According to the US Director of National Intelligence, Jaish al-Adl is the most active and influential Sunni militant group operating in the Sistan-Baluchestan region. Additionally, on Tuesday, Iran launched ballistic missile strikes on targets in the northern Iraqi city of Irbil, an act that received condemnation from the United States.
