Oppenheimer has received the most nominations at this year's Academy Awards, with a total of 13. Christopher Nolan's film about theoretical physicist J Robert Oppenheimer was highly acclaimed by critics and a box office success. The nominations include acting prizes for Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, and Robert Downey Jr, as well as a best director nomination for Nolan. Other notable nominations include Poor Things, Killers of the Flower Moon, Barbie, and Maestro. The Oscars ceremony will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel in Los Angeles on March 10th. Greta Gerwig made history as the first female director to have three best picture nominees, including Little Women, Lady Bird, and Barbie. However, she did not receive a nomination for best director. Lily Gladstone became the first Native American actress to be recognized for her role in Killers of the Flower Moon, while Jodie Foster received her first nomination in nearly 30 years for Nyad. The UK's first appearance in the best international feature category in 24 years was marked by The Zone of Interest's nomination. Half of this year's acting nominees are first-time nominees. Despite the overall success of Barbie, its director and star were surprisingly absent from the nominations. Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie missed out on best director and best actress nominations, but Robbie received a nomination as a producer in the best picture category, and Gerwig for best adapted screenplay. Annette Bening received recognition for her role in Nyad, in what was seen as a surprising nomination. Justine Triet's nomination for best director ensured there was still a woman in the category despite Gerwig's absence. America Ferrera's supporting performance in Barbie was one of the biggest surprises in the acting categories. Her monologue resonated with Academy voters, leading to her nomination. May December received one nomination for original screenplay but failed to secure acting nominations for Julianne Moore, Charles Melton, and Natalie Portman. All of Us Strangers and Saltburn, despite their strong performance at the Bafta nominations, did not receive any nominations. Leonardo DiCaprio was absent from the best actor category for his role in Killers of the Flower Moon, and Willem DaFoe was not nominated in the best supporting actor category for his role in Poor Things. Martin Scorsese received his 10th nomination for Killers of the Flower Moon, making him the most nominated living director. However, he has only won the award once for The Departed in 2007. Composer John Williams, at 91 years old, received his 54th nomination for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. He is the second most-nominated person in Oscar history after Walt Disney and has announced that this will be his last major work.
