Olivia Rodrigo has opened up about how a conversation with her best friend inspired a song on her latest album, Guts. The 20-year-old singer revealed that the ballad "Logical" was based on a discussion she had with her friend Madison Hu about a manipulative lover. Although Olivia's lyrics are often assumed to be about her own experiences, she admitted that Madison was actually her muse for this particular song. The two friends first met while working together on the Disney Channel show Bizaardvark. One night, during a conversation about one of Madison's relationships, she used the phrase "it's just not logical", which Olivia found interesting and decided to incorporate into the song. Olivia expressed her gratitude to her friend for sharing her life experience and acknowledged that Madison played a significant role in the creation of the track. Olivia also mentioned that her friends should be prepared for her to write songs about them, but emphasized that the process is different each time. She typically collaborates with her creative partner Daniel Nigro, which allows her to create more personal and impactful songs. Guts, Olivia's second album, reached number one upon its release. In the past, her music has sparked speculation about the individuals her lyrics are directed towards, but Olivia believes that the beauty of music lies in its relatability. She shared that she has been pleasantly surprised when people from different backgrounds have told her how they could relate to her songs. Olivia recently performed on Radio 1's Live Lounge, where she sang her song "get him back!" and covered Noah Kahan's "Stick Season." Noah Kahan was thrilled to find out that Olivia had covered his song and expressed his excitement on Instagram. The live session was recorded in Los Angeles rather than the BBC studios in London.
