BBC presenter Naga Munchetty and TV personality Vicky Pattison have spoken out about their experiences with doctors dismissing their menstrual health issues. Both women testified before the Women and Equalities Committee as part of an investigation into women's reproductive health. Munchetty revealed that she suffered from adenomyosis, a condition that affects the womb, and lamented the frustrating process of getting diagnosed. She experienced severe pain and heavy bleeding from a young age, which was always brushed off as normal by her doctors. Pattison, on the other hand, was diagnosed with pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) after discovering it through social media discussions. Despite seeking help from various doctors, she was consistently told that her symptoms were just PMS. Both women turned to private healthcare to receive proper treatment and expressed the need for women to be taken seriously in the healthcare system. They highlighted the lack of training and focus on women's health within the medical profession and called for better understanding of female-specific health issues.
