MrBeast, the world's most popular YouTuber, has revealed that he earned over $250,000 from posting a video on X, which was previously known as Twitter. He had previously stated that posting on X was not worth it due to the low advertising revenue for creators. However, he changed his mind and uploaded an old video that has gained over 155 million views. This move has attracted significant attention since X is struggling as a business. The owner of X, Elon Musk, has been implementing various strategies to enhance engagement on the platform. These strategies include sharing advertising revenue with high-profile creators, a practice already common on YouTube. Nevertheless, doubts remain about the effectiveness of these plans as X's traffic continues to decline. X's advertising revenue has also suffered due to Musk's feud with advertisers over issues such as hate speech and misinformation. MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, previously claimed that even if a video received a billion views, it would not be worth his while to post on X. However, he was now intrigued to see how much advertising revenue he could earn from his video. He mentioned that the large sum of money seemed somewhat misleading because advertisers were attracted to the video and bought ads on it, potentially resulting in higher revenue per view compared to other videos. MrBeast intends to donate the money to ten random individuals. Analysts believe that replicating such a significant earnings figure without MrBeast's massive following would be challenging. Karsten Weide, principal at W Media Research, regarded the $250,000 earnings as impressive but emphasized the importance of a massive amount of traffic. The income potential for influencers varies from person to person as deals are confidential, but top creators can negotiate special rates. In November 2022, Forbes estimated MrBeast's yearly earnings from his YouTube channel to be $54 million. Since then, he has gained millions of subscribers and now has a total of 233 million on his main channel. This large audience has attracted companies seeking to improve their platforms. MrBeast is reportedly working on a deal for a show with a major streaming platform. While MrBeast primarily earns money on YouTube, he posted the same video of him testing cars of varying values on X in September 2023. The video has over 215 million views on YouTube. Dave Wiskus, CEO of Nebula, the largest independent premium streaming platform, believes that the performance of this video on X suggests that creators should not dismiss the platform as a place to share their work. However, he doubts that less famous individuals would be able to achieve similar earnings. MrBeast's experiment was a one-off that attracted international media attention due to his status as the biggest YouTuber globally. This level of attention and earnings are unlikely for most X users. This experiment by MrBeast is unique because most creators cannot attract such high view counts or media coverage. Hence, the earnings from his video do not reflect the typical experience for X users. The success of MrBeast's video on X will be encouraging for X's CEO, Linda Yaccarino, who has worked in advertising and has been dealing with the platform's reputation. Elon Musk, the owner of X, recently visited the Auschwitz death camp, addressing concerns about the platform's handling of anti-Semitic content. X users and potential advertisers are troubled by this issue, requiring Musk to address it through both words and actions. Rumors suggest that MrBeast is in negotiations for his own show on a major video streaming platform. If true, his experiment on X serves as a strong indication of his value and worth.
