Dexter Scott, the youngest son of Martin Luther King Jr., passes away after battling cancer.

Dexter Scott King, the youngest son of Dr Martin Luther King Jr, has passed away at the age of 62, according to the King Center in Atlanta. He battled prostate cancer before his death. Dexter's wife, Leah Weber King, mentioned in a statement that he passed away peacefully in his sleep at their home in Malibu. Dexter King was known for being an activist and held positions as chairman of the King Center and president of the King Estate. He was born in Atlanta in 1961 to Dr King and Coretta Scott King, who were prominent civil rights leaders. Dexter was named after the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, where his father served as a pastor. tragically, Dexter was only seven years old when Dr King was assassinated. His brother Martin Luther King III expressed his deep sorrow at the loss of his sibling. Dexter's sister, Rev Bernice King, also shared her heartbreak, as they had already lost another sibling, Yolanda King, in 2007. Dexter King attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, following in his father's footsteps, and later became a lawyer, using his expertise to protect the King family's intellectual property. Known for his striking resemblance to his father, Dexter portrayed him in the 2002 movie The Rosa Parks Story. The King Center described Dexter as dedicating his life to carrying on his father's legacy. Civil rights leader Rev Al Sharpton sent his condolences to the family, hoping for Dexter's legacy to endure.
