The family of Nigerian actor John Okafor, known as Mr Ibu, has revealed that his leg was amputated for medical reasons. According to a statement on his Instagram page, doctors had to make the difficult decision to sever the limb in order to save his life. The family has accepted this as Okafor's new reality. The 62-year-old actor has appeared in numerous Nollywood films and his family has not disclosed the specific illness that led to the amputation. The statement also mentions that Okafor has undergone seven surgeries and requires one more. Nigerian media reports suggest that former Senate President Bukola Saraki has contributed to some of Okafor's medical expenses, but the family is requesting further financial support from fans and well-wishers without specifying the amount. It is not uncommon for Nollywood actors to make such appeals, which has raised questions about why these seemingly affluent actors cannot afford their own medical bills. It should be noted that private medical care in Nigeria can be expensive, and the pay rates in the Nollywood industry can vary greatly.
