The body of the last missing hiker from the volcanic eruption on Mount Marapi in Indonesia has been found by rescuers, bringing the death toll to 23. The search for the remaining 10 missing hikers was temporarily halted due to safety concerns but resumed on Tuesday. The final body was recovered on Wednesday, according to Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency. The eruption resulted in a 3km ash cloud, enveloping nearby villages. Out of the 75 hikers in the area during the eruption, most were evacuated and treated for burns. Currently, twelve injured victims are being treated in hospital. Mount Marapi, known as the "Mountain of Fire", is one of Indonesia's most active volcanoes and is popular among hikers. In recent years, trails have been temporarily closed due to ash eruptions. The deadliest eruption of Mount Marapi occurred in 1979, claiming the lives of 60 people. Survivors have recounted experiences of suffering injuries from falling rocks and being blinded momentarily by thick smoke as they escaped.
