Dating coach Mel Schilling, known for her role in the TV show Married at First Sight, has revealed that she has been diagnosed with colon cancer. She shared the news on Instagram, stating that doctors informed her about the diagnosis last week. Schilling further explained that she would be spending Christmas in the hospital as she undergoes an operation to remove a tumor. The 51-year-old, who has been a part of the MAFS cast since 2016, also participates in the UK version of the show. Alongside Paul Brunson and Charlene Douglas, Schilling serves as one of the relationship experts on the UK program. Schilling shared a photo on Instagram with her husband Gareth and daughter Madison as she disclosed the news. She mentioned that she had initially experienced severe stomach cramps a few months ago but was misdiagnosed with constipation. It was only after a scan that she discovered the presence of cancer. Despite the challenging road ahead, Schilling considers herself blessed that the cancer can be eradicated and expects to fully recover. She acknowledged the difficulty of spending Christmas in the hospital but emphasized the importance of getting rid of the tumor. Schilling urged people to trust their instincts and seek further medical advice if something doesn't feel right. She emphasized that doing so may save their lives. Colon cancer, a type of bowel cancer, affects around 42,000 people in the UK annually, according to Cancer Research UK.
