Actress Margot Robbie, who starred in the highly successful film Barbie in 2023, has addressed her disappointment at not receiving an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. Despite the movie receiving eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress, fans were upset that Robbie was overlooked for her leading role. However, Robbie, who is also a producer of the film, stated that she is not feeling sad about the snub. During a discussion with her co-stars in the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), Robbie expressed gratitude for her blessings and acknowledged that the movie's impact on culture is the most significant reward. She also voiced her disappointment that Barbie director Greta Gerwig was not nominated for Best Director, stating that what Gerwig achieved with the film was a once-in-a-lifetime accomplishment. Despite the Oscar snubs, Barbie was a box office success, earning $1.38 billion globally. Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera, who received supporting actor and actress nominations, respectively, also expressed their disappointment that Robbie and Gerwig were not recognized. The film also received nominations for Best Original Song, Best Costume, and Best Production Design, and Robbie emphasized that the recognition the film has received is already beyond what they had ever dreamed of achieving.
