Actor Alec Baldwin has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Hutchins was fatally shot on the set of the movie Rust, a Western filmed in New Mexico in October 2021. Baldwin, who was practicing firing a pistol for a scene, denies pulling the trigger of the Colt .45 pistol and claims he only drew back its hammer. Similar charges were dropped earlier this year, but prosecutors have cited new forensic evidence and refiled the charges. The actor entered his not guilty plea in a court filing before a scheduled virtual court appearance. Prosecutors assert that the weapon reconstruction indicates the trigger had to be pulled for the incident to occur. Baldwin, who expressed shock and sadness at Hutchins' death, has claimed that he has struggled to find acting work since the incident.
