According to Francis Kateh, the chief medical officer of Liberia, over 40 individuals have lost their lives in a fuel tanker accident and subsequent explosion in central Liberia. The incident occurred in the town of Totota, approximately 130km (80 miles) away from the capital city of Monrovia. Eyewitnesses reported that the tanker caught fire after people rushed to the scene to collect fuel. Among the deceased was a pregnant woman, and some bodies were severely burnt. Dr. Kateh stated that more than 83 injured individuals have been admitted to the hospital, with those in critical condition being transferred to hospitals in Monrovia.
