Opposition candidate Joseph Boakai is currently leading in the Liberian presidential election, according to the latest results released by the electoral commission. Boakai, a 78-year-old political veteran, has secured 50.89% of the votes, while incumbent President George Weah trails behind with 49.11%. Boakai's lead stands at over 28,000 votes, with almost all ballots accounted for. The announcement of these results has triggered enthusiastic celebrations in Monrovia, the capital. Boakai's supporters have congregated at his party's headquarters, confident of his victory. They have directed chants towards President Weah, demanding his departure, and have referenced a campaign song by calling him the "Buga dancer." No formal statements have been made by either candidate yet. The electoral commission reports that it has disclosed results from 99.58% of the polling stations, while one polling station will undergo a rerun on Saturday. Additionally, discrepancies have been observed in the results from 20 other stations, which require further investigation, according to National Elections Commission chairperson Davidetta Browne Lansanah.
