An NFL broadcaster has issued an apology for fabricating reports while working as a sideline reporter in the early stages of her career. Charissa Thompson admitted on a podcast that she would sometimes make up information when coaches did not provide any updates during halftime. Her comments received backlash from some fans and fellow sports coverage professionals. Thompson clarified that she "never lied" and stated that she had chosen her words poorly. She also emphasized her commitment to ethics and honesty throughout her career as a sports broadcaster. Sideline reporters have an essential role in American football broadcasts, providing live updates from the field and sharing information coaches disclose during games. Thompson currently works primarily as a host for Fox Sports and Amazon. Laura Okmin, a Fox Sports colleague and long-time sideline reporter, criticized Thompson's actions, emphasizing the importance of building trust in the role. Molly McGrath, an ESPN college football reporter, warned against such behavior, stating that it is not normal or ethical. Morgan Uber, of ESPN, remarked that Thompson's comments undermine other women in a profession that is already subject to stereotypes. Representatives for Fox Sports and Amazon Prime have not responded to requests for comment.
