A six-year-old Muslim boy in the US was stabbed to death in what is believed to be a hate crime. Wadea al-Fayoume's funeral was held at the Mosque Foundation in Bridgeview, Chicago, where hundreds gathered to pay their respects. The attacker, the family's landlord, has been charged with murder. Mourners came from all over to express their grief and anger. Wadea's mother, who was seriously injured in the attack, was unable to attend the funeral as she is recovering in hospital. The alleged perpetrator had shown no signs of hostility towards the family prior to the incident. The attack is believed to have been motivated by the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. The boy's last words to his mother before he died were "Mom, I'm fine". Wadea was described as a happy and normal child who loved his school and mother. The landlord had become increasingly paranoid about the family's presence in his home and had made derogatory comments towards them. The US Department of Justice has opened a hate crimes investigation into the incident.
