Kenya's President William Ruto has instructed engineers to build a three-bedroom house for the family of the late world marathon record holder, Kelvin Kiptum. Kiptum had plans to construct a home for his family before he died in a road accident last week. Contrary to local media reports, the president's office has denied that the house needs to be completed by Kiptum's funeral next week. Excavation work has already begun on the four-acre farm that Kiptum had purchased for his future home. According to the family spokesperson, three engineers are currently working on the project under the supervision of senior government officials. The aim is to have the house ready by the end of the 40-day mourning period. Kiptum's funeral is scheduled for February 24th. It has been reported that Kiptum's death, just months after breaking the world marathon record, has shocked Kenya and the athletics community. His father has called for an investigation into the accident, alleging that four unidentified men had visited his son shortly before the incident. The suspects are currently in police custody for questioning. Kiptum had been planning to attempt to run a marathon in under two hours at the Rotterdam marathon in April.
