A Taiwanese YouTuber and his friend have been imprisoned in Cambodia for attempting to stage their own abduction. Chen Neng-chuan and Lu Tsu-hsien posted a video of themselves being detained and beaten up by security guards in the city of Sihanoukville, which is known for gangs carrying out kidnappings and forcing victims into online scams. Both men have been sentenced to two years in prison. Chen, who goes by the name Goodnight Chicken online, had initially claimed they were kidnapped and needed help. However, online investigators quickly uncovered inconsistencies in their story, leading to their arrest. The court found them guilty of incitement and ordered them to pay a fine. Cambodia is plagued by online scam-related human trafficking, with an estimated 100,000 people forced into participating in these scams.
