A judge in Spain has proposed that Luis Rubiales, the former president of the country's football federation, should stand trial in relation to a kiss incident involving captain Jenni Hermoso at the women's World Cup. Rubiales allegedly grabbed Hermoso's head and kissed her without her consent during a presentation following Spain's victory over Australia. The judge has deemed there to be sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to trial, stating that the kiss was a "not consensual and... a unilateral and surprising initiative". Rubiales has denied the allegations and has been previously charged with sexual assault and coercion. Several other football executives, including Hermoso's former coach and the sports director of the men's team, have also been accused and are set to stand trial. Lawyers involved in the case have 10 days to request a formal trial before a court. The incident sparked global outrage and led to Rubiales stepping down as the president of the Spanish football federation.
