New court documents pertaining to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein have been made public. The over 250 pages of filings include allegations from one accuser who claimed to have witnessed sex tapes filmed by Epstein. However, the accuser, Sarah Ransome, later recanted her claims. These documents are the fourth release of records related to Virginia Giuffre's case against Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein's former girlfriend. The lawsuit, which was filed in 2015, was settled in 2017. Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for her involvement in Epstein's abuse of underage girls and is appealing her conviction. Among the released documents are emails from Ransome stating that she had seen sex tapes in Epstein's possession, including ones featuring figures like Bill Clinton, Prince Andrew, and Sir Richard Branson. However, in a 2019 report by the New Yorker, Ransome admitted to fabricating these claims. The court documents also include photographs provided by Ransome that allegedly show girls and young women on Epstein's private island. Ransome later withdrew her claims about the tapes, expressing concern for her family. The emails were part of a court filing by a firm representing Epstein's former lawyer, Alan Dershowitz, to discredit Ransome. Ransome had previously accused Dershowitz of sexual coercion, but he denies the allegations. Ransome received a settlement in 2018 after suing Epstein and Maxwell. She has alleged that she was recruited by Maxwell into a sex-trafficking ring when she was 22 years old. Ransome also provided evidence of Maxwell's involvement in Giuffre's case against Epstein. While Giuffre made accusations against Prince Andrew, she did not claim wrongdoing by Clinton, Donald Trump, or Sir Richard. Previous releases of sealed Epstein court files last week did not provide significant new information. Epstein, who had pleaded guilty to soliciting prostitution from a minor in 2008, died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges.
