According to the US Secret Service, a man has been arrested for crashing a vehicle into a gate outside the White House complex. The incident took place around 6:00 pm local time. The Secret Service spokesman, Anthony Guglielmi, informed the public about the collision on X, which was formerly known as Twitter. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident, and President Joe Biden was not present at the White House as he was travelling from South Carolina to Texas. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody, but their identity has not been released yet. The incident is currently under investigation, and no criminal charges have been filed so far. As a result of the crash, roads to the east of the White House in downtown Washington DC were temporarily closed. Guglielmi stated that it is still unclear whether the crash was intentional or accidental. This is not the first time that vehicles have been driven into the White House gates, as there have been previous incidents of a similar nature. For instance, in May 2023, a man from St. Louis was arrested for crashing a rented box truck into the fences surrounding the presidential complex. He faced charges including reckless driving.
