Newly released court documents relating to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein reveal that he refused to answer questions about alleged blackmail and other incriminating activities, and denied knowing his ex-girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell. The documents were made public as part of a lawsuit filed by Virginia Giuffre, a sex-trafficking victim who settled her case against Epstein in 2017. Maxwell, who was found guilty of aiding Epstein's abuse of young girls, is appealing her conviction. In his deposition, Epstein invoked the fifth amendment to avoid self-incrimination, refusing to answer questions about his alleged sexual encounters with powerful men, including Prince Andrew. Giuffre, who claimed to have been paid by a media organization for photos with the prince, also alleged that she was made to have sex with "a well-known prime minister" but refused to disclose his identity. The released documents also mention other individuals, including Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz, Victoria's Secret boss Les Wexner, billionaire investor Glenn Dubin, and former US peace envoy George Mitchell, all of whom have denied Giuffre's claims. The court records also reveal that Giuffre used drugs and alcohol and sometimes struggled to recall specific details of her encounters. This latest release completes a series of five batches of court documents that have shed little new light on Epstein's activities but have confirmed previous information about his criminal behavior. Epstein died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges.
