The family of a grandmother who was mauled to death by dogs in Jaywick, Essex, have expressed their anger over the conditions in which the animals were kept. Esther Martin, 68, was fatally injured while visiting her grandson on Saturday afternoon. Ashley Warren, 39, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous dog offences but has been released on bail. Ms. Martin's family believes that the blame lies with the owner, rather than the dogs themselves. They claimed that the animals were unregistered XL bully dogs and were kept in a small chalet. The family also expressed concern for the safety of their 11-year-old nephew who witnessed the attack. Meanwhile, the police are investigating the incident and are working to confirm the breed of the dogs involved. XL bully dogs are banned in England and Wales under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991. The government has also recently announced a ban in Scotland.
