Actor Ian Lavender, best known for his role in Dad's Army, passes away at 77 years old

Ian Lavender, the actor famous for his role as Private Pike in the iconic TV series Dad's Army, has passed away at the age of 77. Lavender, originally from Birmingham, was only 22 when he landed the part in the new BBC sitcom. The show skyrocketed his career and he spent a decade as part of this beloved comedy classic. Sadly, Lavender was the last surviving main cast member of the series, making his passing a significant loss for fans. Aside from Dad's Army, Lavender showcased his acting skills in other TV comedies such as Yes Minister and even performed on stage in productions like The Merchant of Venice. In addition, he made appearances on EastEnders as Derek Harkinson, reprising the role in 2016 for a special holiday storyline. Lavender's passion for acting developed during his time at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, with Dad's Army being his breakthrough role. The beloved series, which followed a Home Guard platoon during World War II, aired on BBC One from 1968 to 1977 and left an enduring mark on British popular culture.
