Two people have been killed by an aggressive grizzly bear in Banff National Park in Canada. Park officials were notified of the incident after receiving a GPS alert used to report bear attacks. A specialized response team traveled on foot overnight and located the deceased couple over 24 hours later. The bear, still displaying aggressive behavior, was euthanized on-site for public safety. This is the second deadly grizzly attack in North America since July. The alarm was triggered on Friday evening, and a Wildlife Human Attack Response Team was immediately mobilized. Bad weather conditions prevented officials from reaching the site by helicopter, so they traveled on ground and arrived in the early hours of Sunday. The bodies of the victims were removed with the help of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and taken to Alberta. The victims have not been identified, but they were described as experienced hikers who followed bear protocol closely. Their dog was also killed by the grizzly. Banff National Park is home to an estimated 65 grizzly bears out of the 691 estimated in Alberta. Grizzly bear attacks are usually not fatal, but human-bear encounters are increasing as more people venture outdoors. The area around Red Deer and Panther valleys has been closed following the attack.
