A Sheffield Wednesday fan has admitted to committing a public order offence by using a photo of Bradley Lowery to taunt rival supporters. Dale Houghton, 31, was seen laughing as he displayed the image of the six-year-old during a match against Sunderland, the team Bradley supported before he passed away from cancer in 2017. Houghton pleaded guilty at Sheffield Magistrates' Court and was released on bail until his sentencing hearing on 17 November. The judge described his actions as "utterly deplorable" and stated that all sentencing options, including imprisonment, were being considered. The photos circulated on social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, showing two men laughing at Hillsborough stadium as Houghton held up the photo of Bradley on his phone. Houghton described his behavior as "enjoyable banter" during a police interview and claimed he found it amusing. Bradley's mother, Gemma Lowery, referred to Houghton's actions as "unforgivable" and said she was upset that her son's image had been used in such a manner. Houghton's solicitor expressed his remorse and disgust over his client's behavior, stating that he went too far during a mutual exchange between fans. Houghton lost his job as a window-fitter due to the considerable uproar caused by his actions. A football banning order is also being considered. Meanwhile, over £18,000 has been donated by Sheffield Wednesday fans to a charity founded in Bradley's name, with the funds intended to build a holiday home in Scarborough for sick children to create lasting memories. Mrs. Lowery expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support and stated that Houghton's actions had deeply upset her and her husband. They did not want to see Bradley's image portrayed in a negative light.
