A couple from Hampstead Norreys in Berkshire, David and Celia Barlow, were tragically killed while on their honeymoon in Uganda's Queen Elizabeth National Park, along with their guide. The local community has expressed their deep sorrow and paid tribute to the couple, with the cricket club and parish council describing David as a valued member and pillar of the community. The police in Uganda have reported that the vehicle carrying the victims was set on fire after their deaths. Friends and community members are struggling to comprehend the news, and the Ugandan High Commission in the UK has promised to support the bereaved families. The police believe that the attack was carried out by suspected members of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel group, which has ties to ISIS and operates primarily in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Both Uganda and the DRC have been conducting anti-ADF operations in recent months. The incident has prompted the UK Foreign Office to update its travel advice for Uganda, cautioning against non-essential travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park and advising visitors to follow local security authorities’ instructions. The Foreign Office is offering consular assistance to affected British nationals and urging those in the area to contact them for support.
