Five prisoners believed to be dangerous Islamists have managed to escape from a jail in Tunisia. The country's interior ministry has taken the step of releasing their photos to the public, urging citizens to provide any information that could help prevent potential terrorist activities. The inmates made their escape from Mornaguia prison on Tuesday morning, as announced by the ministry on their official Facebook page. Among the escapees is Ahmed Malki, also known as "the Somali," who is serving a 24-year sentence for the 2013 killings of two secular politicians, Chokri Belaid and Mohamed Brahmi. This assassination had significant consequences for Tunisia, leading to a political crisis that ultimately resulted in the government's resignation. Another notable escapee is Rayd Touati, who is said to have been involved in some of the most violent attacks that have shaken Tunisia over the past ten years, according to security sources cited by Reuters. Tunisia gained international attention as the birthplace of the Arab Spring, following its successful ousting of long-serving leader Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali in 2011. However, political instability has been mounting in recent times, exacerbated by President Kais Saied's attempts to consolidate power. Tunisia experienced one of its worst attacks in 2015 when a gunman opened fire on tourists visiting a popular resort north of Sousse, resulting in the tragic death of thirty-eight people.
