Kate Vokes, a British skier, and her 22-year-old son, Archie Vokes, have tragically died in an avalanche in France. The incident occurred near the ski resort of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, close to Mont Blanc. The family of the deceased expressed their profound sadness and requested privacy during this difficult time. Archie Vokes was a personal trainer and had recently obtained his ski instructor qualification in Canada. Kate Vokes was actively involved in various charitable organizations and was a well-respected figure in her community. The group, including the mother and son, were accompanied by a guide they had known for years. Authorities suspect that the avalanche may have been triggered by another party of skiers at a higher altitude. It took approximately five hours of searching before the mother and son were found. Sadly, none of them were equipped with avalanche beacons, which are used to locate individuals buried by avalanches. Avalanche incidents are unfortunately not uncommon in France, with about 110 people affected each year, resulting in approximately 30 deaths.
