The Eurostar services to and from London St Pancras International have been cancelled due to flooding in a tunnel, causing significant disruptions during the festive season. At least 14 services have been cancelled so far, with Eurostar working hard to ensure later trains can run but warning of severe delays. Southeastern's high-speed services to Ebbsfleet have also been cancelled for the entire day. Travel journalist Simon Calder described the situation at St Pancras as "chaos". People planning New Year trips to Disneyland were left in tears as their services were cancelled. Eurostar has stated that affected customers can receive a full refund or exchange. This is the second major disruption to Eurostar services in 10 days, following a last-minute strike by French workers just before Christmas. Network Rail and Thames Water engineers are working to fix the flooding problem. Additionally, Thameslink services are facing major disruption due to staffing shortages. The Met Office has issued yellow warnings for wind, rain, and snow in large parts of the UK, leading to speed restrictions on the West Highland Line. Northern Ireland and Wales are also facing rain warnings with potential flooding and power interruptions. Storm Gerrit, which occurred a few days ago, caused widespread power outages and disruption across the country. Scotland is expected to experience significant snowfall, while Wales and certain parts of England face gusty winds. This severe weather is likely to cause delays in various modes of transportation and power outages. Earlier this week, a tornado in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester damaged around 100 homes and resulted in a major incident being declared by the police. Those planning to travel should prepare for potential disruptions and stay updated on the latest weather conditions.
