Ernest Bai Koroma, the ex-president of Sierra Leone, has been accused of four counts of treason for his alleged involvement in an attempted coup. He appeared in court in the capital, Freetown, where he reasserted his innocence. The incident occurred in November when a group of armed individuals raided a military armory and several prisons, leading to the escape of nearly 2,000 prisoners. Additionally, twelve individuals, including one of Koroma's ex-bodyguards, were also charged in relation to the failed coup.
