Severe cold and dense fog have created severe disruptions in Delhi, the capital of India, as well as other parts of northern India. The poor visibility has led to over 100 flights and 25 trains being delayed in Delhi alone. Wednesday marked one of the foggiest days of the season so far, with visibility dropping to less than 50 meters. The thick mist in the morning caused traffic to move at a crawl and resulted in accidents in various areas. Similar incidents have also been reported in other parts of northern India. In Uttar Pradesh, a dense fog caused multiple vehicle collisions on a prominent expressway, leaving several people injured but thankfully no casualties. Cold waves are not uncommon in this region during this time of year, affecting various parts of northern and central India. The states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Indian-administered Kashmir are also experiencing continued cold weather. The Indian weather office has issued an alert, stating that the foggy conditions will persist for the next five days. They have advised people to exercise caution while driving, recommending the use of fog lights for better visibility on the roads. The office has also urged individuals to avoid going out unless necessary and to properly cover their faces when outdoors. The extreme cold poses a significant challenge for India's homeless population, who often sleep on the streets and at railway stations.
