Over 100 individuals have been killed following an earthquake that hit remote western Nepal on Friday. The earthquake also caused significant damage in the districts of Jajarkot and Rukum, located 500km west of Kathmandu. Security forces have been deployed to assist in rescue operations. The tremors were felt as far as the Nepalese capital and neighboring cities in India, such as Delhi. Numerous aftershocks were also reported, causing people to spend the night outside due to fears of further quakes and building damage. Videos shared on social media show collapsed buildings and individuals searching for survivors amidst the rubble. Nepal's Prime Minister has visited the quake-affected region. The police chief of Jajarkot district mentioned the difficulty in obtaining a complete overview of the situation due to the remoteness of some areas. Last month, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake occurred in Bajhang, injuring people. Nepal experienced devastating earthquakes in 2015, resulting in thousands of deaths and injuries, as well as widespread destruction of homes and historic landmarks.
